Stade Chaban-Delmas
Stade Chaban-Delmas (stadium) is located only a hop, skip and a jump from Downtown Bordeaux. First built in 1930 as a cycle-racing track, it has played host for matches from the 1938 & 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2007 Rugby World cup. It was also was the home ground for the Girondins de Bordeaux football team (1938 to 2015) and is currently the HQ of the Union Bordeaux Bègles rugby team since 2011.
The stadium has a current seating capacity of 34,462 places and is situated near Bordeaux’s Pellegrin Hospital. With an interesting modernist style, it has a number of remarkable architectural features, and was one of the very first stadiums in the world to have covered stands without any pillars.
If you’re heading out to the stadium for a match, try and make sure you get there early to enjoy the street themed festivities and marching bands!
The stadium is located around 2km to the east of Bordeaux’s city centre and is served with frequent trams that stop right at the front door (Tram Line A / Stop: Stade Chaban-Delmas).
